Pre Jym Pre-Workout Review (2024): | Does This Supplement Actually WORK?

You heard this among your gym friends and seen it on the store shelves. People refer to it as one of the great pre-workout supplements that ‘started it all’. It is Dr Jim Stoppani’s Pre Jym.

Formulated by such a well-known and respected fitness influencer and specialist, a product with this popularity and credibility can take nothing but great expectations.

Well, I did have great expectations for this.

Jym PreAfter using it for quite a while, I came up with this pre workout review to share what I think everyone should know about this so-called ‘PWO King’. And, if you are wondering if it is even effective or not, then this is the right place for you!

According to bodybuilding.com, out of 4,023 customer reviews, Pre Jym garnered an average rating of 9.1 out of 10, proving that there is no doubt how many people are actually trusting and positively reviewing this Jym supplement.

But over the years, rumor has it and says that this product is potentially dangerous because it can cause cancer.

How true is this? Is it  safe to take? Does it really work after all? If you have these questions in mind then stay with me to find out the answer.

What is Jym Pre Workout Supplement

Pre Jym Pre Workout

JYM is a supplement company founded by Dr. Jim Stoppani. It is a long-running company and it recently innovated and improved its formula in the form of JYM Supplement Science PreJym supplement.

It claims to be the most effective supplementation ever developed as it is built on solid science and decades of professional experience. It is research made real and is packed with 13-hand picked ingredients to help build lean muscle, torch body fat, improve strength, and boost speed.

JYM Supplement Science promotes three of its workout supplements: PRE JYM, POST JYM, and PRO JYM.

As I see it, it has landed a respectable place in the list of top pre-workouts because of its following product features:

  1. 1
No proprietary blends - No hidden formula or substances
  2. 2
Proper amounts - Right dose of every ingredient
  3. 3
No “abbreviated” formulas - Has all the right ingredients
  4. 4
No concentrates - No magic, just pure science

I believe that all of these features are true but I found one thing that concerned me at some point. When it mentioned that this product has the right dose of content, I doubted.

Let me show you a closer look at its nutritional content to explain what I mean.

Pre JYM Nutrition & Ingredients

JYM Pre Ingredients

PreJym supplement science is packed with 13 powerhouse ingredients and highlights 5-key ingredients:

  • BCAAS 6g
  • CITRULLINE MALATE 6g
  • Black Pepper Extract (5mg).
  • CREATINE HCL 2g
  • CARNOSYN BETA-ALANINE 2g
  • BETAINE 1.5g

This is definitely a solid pre-workout formula that contains all the necessary ingredients such as Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine, and Betaine. This is commonly found in all effective pre-workouts.

In addition to these are the following:

  • Taurine, 1g
  • N-Acetyl L-Cysteine, 600mg
  • Alpha-GPC, 300mg (Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline)
  • Beet Root Extract (Beta vulgaris L.), 500mg
  • L-Tyrosine, 1.5g
  • Huperzine A, 50mcg
  • BioPerine (to aid in the absorption), 5mg

Supplement supplies huge performance-boosting ingredients, mostly at effective doses. This contributes to increasing strength and endurance for effective workouts.

Pre Jym supplement science also prides itself to have a robust formula and aims for the inclusion of a range of ingredients at the proven effective doses. It is jampacked! It is highly dosed. Now, you may think the higher the content the better and more effective, but it isn’t always like that.

With PreJym, Caffeine content reaches an amount 300g which actually equivalents to 3 cups of coffee in just one scoop! I really like how this product gave me so much energy and motivation but it also kept me awake for a while and that bothered me.

Note: This product already has a high dose of caffeinated content so do not bother taking other caffeinated products along with it.

Taste And Flavors

Pre Jym comes in interesting different flavors:

  • Cherry Limeade
  • Tangerine
  • Black Cherry
  • Orange Mango
  • Pineapple Strawberry
  • Rainbow Sherbet
  • Raspberry Lemonade
  • Refreshing Melon
  • Strawberry Kiwi

I have tried Black Cherry flavor and it was fine. The taste was pretty good–though not in a way that it stands out among all brands that I have tried.

But recently, it released a new flavor called Pink Lemonade! So maybe it could be worth giving a try.

What Are the Benefits, Effectiveness & Side Effects

Pre Jym Side Effects

Based on my experience, the main effects I felt from Pre Jym were the increased pumps, better focus, and more energy. While on others, benefits mentioned were more intense workouts, higher energy levels, enhanced muscle strength, and faster recovery.

I had a few side effects when I used it but other than that it was a good experience. There may also be a little tingling due to Beta-alanine but there is no danger in it.

In general, here are the possible side effects that can occur from using this product:

From caffeine

nervousness and restlessness, stomach irritation, nausea and vomiting, increased heart rate and respiration

From huperzine A

adverse reactions including nasal obstruction, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, thirst, and constipation

From creatine

Muscle cramping, fever, weight gain, nausea, dizziness, water retention, dehydration, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal pain.

This product has also been rumored to cause cancer because of its label that stated—this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer.

But good thing, there was no scientific proof on this and no reported cancer-related issues upon using Pre Jym. So overall, Pre JYM is safe. Although it works to some and not to others.

Now here is what others have to share about their experience:

This is the best pre-workout I have ever used! I have made amazing gains and the mental focus this stuff gives me is amazing! I have not used any other pre-workout since I bought this stuff.

                                                                                                                                                            -Ice

I've had lots of different types of supplements over my years but this has been the only one that didn't give me any good pre-workout jolt to pick me up and felt like it was just loaded with caffeine that ended up making feel nauseous.

                                                                                                                                                         -Tyler

I can not workout without JYM any more. This has increased my workout intensity and length of two-fold. I am getting older and this is the right product to get me back on the game. It doesn’t give me the jitters and no crash. Highly recommend.

                                                                                                                                                             -AB

Is PreJym Bad for Weight Loss?

This product is known to promote and boost fat loss. So is it bad for weight loss? The answer is obviously NO. Dr. Jim explains, “You are far better off and will get far better fat loss benefits from taking Pre JYM before you train.”

There were no reviews [yet] found that shows a negative experience when it comes to fat loss.

When Should I Take Prejym?

For instructions on how to take Pre Jym, it is recommended to mix one scoop with 12-32 ounces of water 30-45 minutes before workouts.

When to Take Jym Supplement

Dr Jim Stoppani suggests letting Pre JYM sit for at least 10-15 minutes after mixing it to ensure all ingredients go into solution. He also adds sipping Pre JYM slowly over the course of 15-30 minutes to enhance absorption in the body and avoid any gastric discomfort.

Pre Jym Vs C4

Pre Jym, being on top of PWOs, can be easily compared to other products such as Advance Molecular Labs (AML) and C4 pre-workout. But let’s take a look at how Pre Jym stands along with Cellucor’s C4 Pre Workout

Versus C4

Here is C4’s nutritional content:

  • 1.6g CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine
  • 1g Creatine Nitrate (NO3-T®)
  • 150mg Caffeine
  • 1g Arginine AKG
  • 250mg Vitamin C
  • 30mg Niacin
  • 500mcg Vitamin B6
  • 250mcg Folic Acid
  • 35mcg Vitamin B12
  • Explosive Energy Blend

When compared together, C4 contains five of the same key ingredients in Pre Jym but not the same dose.

While neither would be considered the best supplement—Pre Jym is more powerful, with higher doses of caffeine, beta-alanine, and creatine.

Many of C4 ingredients are also hidden away in a proprietary blend plus a C4 Pre Workout product called C4 Extreme has been determined to contain a banned substance called Synephrine HCL, which gives Cellucor a red flag.

Where To Buy Pre Jym Preworkout

Pre JYM may not be available at Vitamin Shoppee but it can be purchased on various websites such as Amazon, bodybuilding.com, GNC and Walmart. It comes in 20 serving size (20 serving size) and 30 servings container.

Pre-Kaged vs Pre Jym Pre-Workout Comparison

“Pre-Kaged” and “Pre Jym” are two popular pre-workout supplements designed to enhance workout performance, boost energy levels, and improve the overall exercise experience. To decide which one is the better fit for you, let’s compare their ingredients, formulations, and intended benefits.

Pre-Kaged:

Pre-Kaged is a pre-workout supplement produced by Kaged Muscle. It’s known for its well-rounded ingredient profile and is intended to offer a wide range of advantages for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. The formula contains several key components:

  1. Caffeine: Pre-Kaged includes caffeine, a stimulant that can enhance energy, focus, and alertness during workouts.

  2. Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs): BCAAs, which include leucine, isoleucine, and valine, help with muscle protein synthesis and recovery.

  3. Citrulline: Citrulline is added to promote the production of nitric oxide, which can improve blood flow and the delivery of nutrients to muscles.

  4. Creatine: Creatine monohydrate is included to boost strength and power during exercise.

  5. Beta-Alanine: Beta-alanine is part of the mix to increase muscle carnosine levels, which helps delay muscle fatigue.

  6. Coconut Water: This ingredient provides electrolytes, helping to maintain hydration during workouts.

Pre Jym:

Pre Jym, created by Dr. Jim Stoppani, is another well-regarded pre-workout supplement. It also boasts a comprehensive formulation with various ingredients:

  1. Caffeine: Pre Jym contains caffeine, which contributes to increased alertness and energy levels.

  2. Beta-Alanine: Beta-alanine helps delay muscle fatigue and supports endurance.

  3. Citrulline Malate: Citrulline malate enhances nitric oxide production, improving blood flow and muscle pumps.

  4. BCAAs: BCAAs support muscle recovery and protein synthesis.

  5. Creatine HCl: This version of creatine is included for its potential to enhance strength and power.

  6. Alpha-GPC: Alpha-glyceryl phosphoryl choline (Alpha-GPC) may help improve cognitive function and focus.

Comparison:

When comparing Pre-Kaged and Pre Jym, several factors come into play:

  1. Caffeine Content: Both products contain caffeine, but the exact dosage may vary. Your sensitivity to caffeine is an important consideration.

  2. Creatine Form: Pre-Kaged uses creatine monohydrate, while Pre Jym uses creatine hydrochloride (HCl). Your preference for these creatine forms may influence your choice.

  3. Additional Ingredients: Pre-Kaged includes coconut water for electrolytes, which can be beneficial for workouts in hot conditions. Pre Jym includes Alpha-GPC for cognitive enhancement.

  4. Flavor and Taste: Personal taste preferences for flavor and taste may impact your decision.

  5. Brand and Reputation: Consider the reputation of the manufacturer and their transparency regarding ingredient dosages and quality.

Your choice between Pre-Kaged and Pre Jym will ultimately depend on your specific fitness goals, tolerance for caffeine, and preferences for additional ingredients. It’s crucial to carefully read product labels, assess your individual needs, and, if necessary, consult with a healthcare professional or fitness expert to make an informed decision that aligns with your workout objectives.

Can I mix Jym Supplement the night before?

Mix it vigorously with liquid, then allow it rest for 10 to 15 minutes while continually shaking before taking it to be sure that all parts are dissolved into water. Don’t just mix JYM Pre powder and start instantly drinking it. Don’t let it sit mixed for more than 8 hours if kept in the fridge or 3 hours at room temperature – if you do that, the creatine will start to deteriorate. Sip on it over the course of the 15-40 minutes heading up to your exercise to ensure maximal retention and absorption of all ingredients.

How Bad is Preworkout?

Mental stress over your upcoming work can cause you to have a bad mood while at the office. For example, if you get to work and discover there are some things you have to do that you feel uncomfortable about doing (meaning, you’re not sure about the answers to certain questions), you’ll likely have a bad mood without results. On the other hand, if there’s nothing you feel awkward about (say, it’s a new job) then you’ll be more confident. In this case, you will likely have a bad mood when you arrive at work. For example, if you know you have to look at your old reviews and do certain things that will make you feel uncomfortable, then you’ll likely have a bad mood.

But if it’s a new job that’s entirely new to you, then you’ll feel great, which is a nice bonus. A bad mood around the time you start work. For example, if you arrive at work and start thinking about work and dreading it, then you’ll likely have a bad mood. On the other hand, if you get to work and are excited about it, and really start to get to know your co-workers, then you’ll likely have a good day. A bad mood just after work or post-workout. For example, if you arrive at the office, and your colleagues are quiet and all you want to do is get home.

Is Pre Workout JYM Good for Running?

Maybe. It depends on the specific product. I haven’t personally used JYM as a fitness product and I don’t know if they work. But I know, personally, that I don’t get much of a workout before I run. And that works for me. If JYM is just a different approach, I don’t know if it would work for me. Won’t My Muscles Toughen Up? Some of them might. JYM may help. If it’s a different version of a cream that can help, it could work. Can’t I Get This at a Convenience Store? Nope. There’s no such thing as a JYM supplement. You wouldn’t go to the gas station and buy a six-pack of protein shakes or a multivitamin to help with your fitness goals.

Okay. So I’m Wondering. Here’s a video review of JYM from Brandon Kiehm: The bottom line is unless I’m convinced JYM is some kind of supplement that you could just take any time, I’m not a big fan. It seems more gimmicky than useful. The funny thing is that right now, their Facebook page is full of people posting: “JYM has saved my life.” It makes me wonder if JYM is a supplement that actually helps. And that’s the only downside of the product I can see. But if you want to buy this stuff, here are some places to buy JYM. I doubt they’re gonna sell it by the case at your local Target.

Is it Bad to Take Pre-Workout Everyday?

Taking pre-workout supplements daily is a great way to speed up the metabolism. Unfortunately, some pre-workout supplements contain too many carbohydrates which can disrupt the balance of the body, leading to negative health effects. Taurine for energy Here’s the science on why taurine might be the most important supplement in your gym bag. Taurine is a small, water-soluble amino acid that plays a vital role in the brain and nervous system.

One of taurine’s main roles is to provide the body with energy by converting proteins into energy and supporting the brain and nervous system. Taurine also increases muscle mass, boosts stamina, and helps your body absorb and process food. Even though taurine is relatively small, it’s still important to consume enough in your diet. Most taurine supplements only contain about.

What is the Difference Between Post JYM and Pre JYM?

Post JYM and Pre JYM are both popular supplements designed to enhance workout performance and recovery, but they serve distinct purposes in the context of a fitness regimen.

Pre JYM is formulated to be consumed before a workout session. It typically contains ingredients aimed at increasing energy, focus, and endurance, thereby maximizing the effectiveness of the upcoming exercise session. Common components of Pre JYM supplements include caffeine, beta-alanine, creatine, and citrulline malate. Caffeine acts as a stimulant, enhancing alertness and reducing perceived exertion during exercise. Beta-alanine helps buffer the buildup of lactic acid in muscles, delaying fatigue. Creatine boosts ATP production, providing immediate energy for short bursts of intense activity. Citrulline malate increases nitric oxide production, promoting vasodilation and improving blood flow to muscles, leading to enhanced performance.

On the other hand, Post JYM supplements are intended for consumption after a workout. They focus on facilitating muscle recovery and growth by replenishing nutrients lost during exercise and promoting an anabolic environment in the body. Key ingredients commonly found in Post JYM formulas include whey protein, branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), glutamine, and carbohydrates. Whey protein delivers essential amino acids necessary for muscle repair and growth. BCAAs, particularly leucine, stimulate muscle protein synthesis, aiding in recovery. Glutamine supports immune function and helps prevent muscle breakdown. Carbohydrates replenish glycogen stores depleted during exercise, facilitating muscle recovery and refueling energy stores.

In summary, while Pre JYM primes the body for exercise by providing energy and focus, Post JYM supports recovery and muscle growth by supplying essential nutrients and promoting an optimal environment for tissue repair. Incorporating both Pre JYM and Post JYM supplements into a fitness routine can help individuals maximize their workout performance, enhance recovery, and achieve their fitness goals more effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Some Side Effects of Pre-Workout?

Pre-workout supplements are popular among individuals seeking an extra boost of energy and performance during their exercise sessions. However, it’s important to be aware of potential side effects that can accompany their use. While these effects can vary depending on the specific product and individual factors, several common side effects have been reported.

One of the most frequently encountered side effects is increased heart rate. Many pre-workout supplements contain stimulants like caffeine or ingredients that promote vasodilation, leading to an elevated heart rate. This can cause feelings of palpitations, rapid heartbeat, or even irregular heart rhythms in some cases.

Another side effect is gastrointestinal discomfort. Pre-workout supplements often contain ingredients like creatine, beta-alanine, or amino acids, which can irritate the digestive system and cause symptoms like bloating, gas, diarrhea, or stomach cramps.

Nervousness and jitters are also common side effects due to the stimulating nature of many pre-workout supplements. High doses of caffeine or other stimulants can induce feelings of restlessness, anxiety, or even panic in susceptible individuals.

Sleep disturbances can occur if pre-workout supplements are taken too close to bedtime. The stimulating effects of ingredients like caffeine can interfere with the ability to fall asleep or disrupt the quality of sleep.

It’s worth noting that individual tolerance and sensitivity play a significant role in experiencing these side effects. Some individuals may be more susceptible than others, while some may not experience any adverse effects at all.

To minimize the risk of side effects, it’s essential to follow the recommended dosage guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Additionally, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications that may interact with the ingredients in pre-workout supplements.

Who Should Not Take Pre-Workout?

Not everyone is suitable for taking pre-workout supplements. Certain individuals should exercise caution or avoid pre-workout altogether due to potential risks or interactions. Here are some groups of people who should not take pre-workout:

Individuals with underlying health conditions: People with cardiovascular issues, such as high blood flow pressure, heart disease, or arrhythmias, should avoid pre-workout supplements as they often contain stimulants that can further strain the heart.

Those with caffeine sensitivity or intolerance: Pre-workout supplements commonly contain caffeine, and individuals who are sensitive to its effects or have caffeine intolerance should steer clear of these products to avoid adverse reactions.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women: The safety of pre-workout supplements during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so it is recommended to avoid them to minimize potential risks to both the mother and the baby.

Individuals taking medications: Certain medications, such as blood thinners, antidepressants, or medications for cardiovascular conditions, can interact with the ingredients in pre-workout supplements. It’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if there are any potential interactions or contraindications.

Minors or individuals under the age of 18: Pre-workout supplements are generally not recommended for individuals under the age of 18 due to the high caffeine content and potential risks associated with stimulant use at a young age.

Always prioritize your safety and well-being by consulting with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian before starting any new supplement regimen. They can provide personalized advice based on your individual health status and specific needs.

Verdict on Pre Jym Pre-Workout Review. Is It Safe?

As a final verdict, Pre Jym is a proven solid formula. But due to its high dosage on several ingredients, it is susceptible to many side effects.

It is safe but you may not have the best experience. Instead, just have a so-so and good feel upon using it.

Reviews from Reddit also shows too many complains about how this product is overpriced. I think for it to have just an average result on effectiveness, this product may not be as worth your money.

It also does not provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee, which means you’re unlikely to get a refund.

Pre Jym BannerWe know how Dr. Jym has a post-doctorate position at Yale University and is a personal nutrition and health consultant to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, Mario Lopez.

However, that doesn’t assure that the benefits and effects will also be the same for everyone. The company also selling branched chain amino acids supplements (BCAA) called  Post JYM.

Bottom line is, find what fits your needs!

As for me, I have found one that tends to all of my concerns and needs. It is the 4 Gauge Pre Workout

4 Gauge, in comparison to Pre Jym, also has no proprietary blends which means that there are no hidden ingredients and substances and even artificial sweeteners. It is packed with high quality and all-natural ingredients

4 Gauge promotes a regularly updated formula and has all eyes and ears to what is new and effective to guarantee faster progress, better physique, and amazing workouts.

Above all, because of natural content in this pre-workout, its side effects are mostly rare and non-existent! Yes, that’s right!

No sleeplessness, not tingles. Its balanced Caffeine and Theanine content prevents stimulant-related side effects such as jitters, restlessness, headaches, and nausea.

4 Gauge has all the power of Pre Jym even without the BCAAs (amini acids) because of the essential ingredients of L-theanine and L-carnitine that Pre Jym lacks.

Its 150mg caffeine content is also more sensible when compared to Pre Jym’s 300mg. To see if 4 Gauge is theproduct you need, here is the breakdown of its formula:

  • L-CITRULLINE DL-MALATE (6000mg)
This is 4 Gauge’s main ingredients which help to improve work capacity or stamina. It also produces nitric acid for muscle function and helps to increase size gains.
  • BETA VULGARIS (300mg)
Beetroot adds up to muscle pumps to assure intensity during workouts.  Beet root extract shown to increase nitric oxide production, that could boost your performance & endurance.
  • CAFFEINE (150mg) and L-THEANINE (200mg)
This is the good part. Caffeine, when combined with L-theanine, neutralizes its sharp edge effect and produces a smoother lift to allow better focus.
  • RHODIOLA ROSEA (100mg)
This ingredient helps in fighting fatigue and depression and is vital in providing great motivation and mindset so you get the right push for every workout session.

Other additional ingredients: Coconut water, Acetyl L-carnitine and Creatine monohydrate.

With just the right amount of everything, 4 Gauge also takes pride that all their ingredients were prepared in FDA and cGMP certified facilities. There is no stopping to people’s amazement in its performance:

This is by far the best and cleanest energy pre-workout I have run across. You can immediately tell this is a quality product.
